It’s raining electrons!

We just got our power back! Hallelujah! Now, if we could just get our running water… I could really go for a shower. :)

I’ll be uploading video and pictures, and writing more about this experience in a little while. In the meantime, I and my family are safe. The storm was scary, but the aftermath (at least for us) has been merely inconvenient. We have minor property damage but nothing that will break the bank or us. All in all, I am grateful beyond words on this Monday!

Adios Ike

I’m slowly tapping out this post on my iPhone in the Tomball Chili’s. We decided to take a drive so we could revel in air conditioning and charge our cell phones. We spotted Chili’s was open and thought heaven was listening. We’ll happily wait 40 minutes standing up if it means we’ll be refridgerated while we do it. :)
Still no power at home. Contents of the fridge and freezer are a loss. We’re missing one section of fence and will soon probably replace the whole thing (it’s got an alarming lean now). But the lack of electricity and a/c is most annoying. :) you don’t realize how much you rely on electricity until you’re without it. And it could be put for 2 weeks or more!

There are downed trees and power lines everywhere. It’s shocking to drive around and see all the damage. At the same time, it’s hard not to marvel that there’s not more damage.

Okay, my finger is tired ;) more later when we manage to find another working cell tower.

Hunkering versus sleeping: sleep slowly wins

Our wind gauge has only recorded a 28 mph gust, but we think it’s still sheltered enough by the house that it’s not measuring the full force. The weather station is almost 50 feet directly south of the house, but the wind is coming from the north. According to the news, Tomball (which is 4 miles south of us) has had gusts of almost 50 mph. We haven’t seen anywhere close to the worst of this yet, though. So I’m back off to bed in the hopes of a few more minutes of sleep. I thought I wouldn’t be able to sleep, but there comes a time when your body won’t let you do anything else. :)

Nathan’s taking pictures tonight, too.

Who’s Justin

A shining moment courtesty of my sister (love ya Jo!). Hunkering down requires a good sense of humor!

My sister asked, "Who's Justin?"
