Friday Felicitations from Ike

It’s been a long time since I posted a Friday Felicitations and it seems an appropriate exercise right now. The house is full, but I’m thankful. I’m so glad to have my family with me–whatever happens, we’re all together. But as we sit amid the ear-splitting barks of the family terrier and the constant drone of the news updates, it’s hard not to feel blessed. Especially with the absolutely mind-blowing color display Ike just gave us during sunset.

A labor of love: True Words from Real Women

Cover of True Words from Real Women Finally, after 4 months, I am finished with one of my biggest projects in a long, long time. I’m finally able to make it a Friday Felicitation!

This year I was co-editor of True Words from Real Women, the annual anthology of the Story Circle Network. My fellow editor is a dear friend from SCN and a true Wonder Woman. I love her to pieces and hope she learned as much from me as I learned from her.

We really wanted to leave our mark on the anthology and find ways to show that it is a proud showcase of our members’ writings. In previous years it has had a very similar look to our quarterly publication, Story Circle Journal. We wanted the anthology to similar but different, so we opted for the same style of illustration throughout. Although the inner pages are black text on white paper, we chose a lavender paper for the cover because the Journal is white paper throughout.

We were expecting about 50 submissions–we ended up with over 100! But it’s done and I am extremely proud of it. And I’m sending up a little good karma in the hopes that I can be involved in the project again next year. :)

Friday Felicitations

IMG_1469.JPG Sometimes I can’t help myself–sometimes I’m most grateful for the smaller and more material blessings in my life. Like this totally happy wall hanging set I found for my dining room. This wall has been a blank slate for four years because I hadn’t found anything that just belonged there. I have found it and it has been installed. :) VERY happy, and very appropriate for our home, I think.

Hubby and I had an impromptu date night tonight (which seems to happen less frequently as we, okay usually me, get wrapped up in life’s happenings). We saw Iron Man, which totally rocked. I must have the soundtrack. I never thought I’d like bang-em-up movies set to hard rock. The only thing that’s better is kung fu to electronica. Woohoo! Hey, even girls like to get their testosterone on. ;)

IMG_1465.JPGAnd, lest I forget, I finally uploaded photos from a girls’ day at the spa when I visited NM a few weeks ago. It had just snowed, so the trees were dusted with white. And Tracy, who is obviously much braver than I, actually lounged briefly on the chairs. :) I fell in love with Ten Thousand Waves the first time I went. And it’s all the cooler because it’s become somewhat of a tradition to make an outing up there with the girls when I visit Albuquerque. I finally get to take hubby there in August! Woohoo!

Friday Felicitations - Strangers in a strange land

I have been so blog challenged lately! Oy vey. I actually carved out some time to journal tonight, and as I was writing, I realized I inadvertently created a Friday Felicitations list. Since I’ve been plagued by Blog Deficit lately, I figured it was a good time to hop online and put my thoughts to screen.

  • My numero uno felicitation: I haven’t taken Ambien in 12 days! This is huge for me! My insomnia has become incredibly frustrating over the last year. It’s been a constant thorn in my side. Knowing that I’ve gone 12 nights with my “normal” sleep pattern is enormously comforting. As you can see from the time stamp, my “normal” sleep pattern is a little wonky, but it’s working for me for now. ;)  This happened by accident–I arrived in LA last week for a conference and realized that I forgot my meds. So what was an annoyance turned out to be a good thing.
  • Speaking of LA, I attended a great conference on web marketing. I actually feel energized and excited about my job! *gasp*
  • I’m cleaning out the guest room. *gasp* I’ll get my tons of craft supplies out of the dining room, darnit! I’m determined! :)
  • After my trip to LA, I swung through New Mexico for a quick trip to my alma mater, New Mexico Tech, then a quick visit with a few friends in Albuquerque. It never seems like I have enough time in Albuquerque, but between the friends and the lovely Land of Enchantment, I come back with a much-needed recharge every time. There’s more to say about this trip, but that will have to come another time.

So go forth and find your own felicitations! Blessed be, everyone.

DaisyLady Designs

A while back I created an Etsy store so I could start selling some of my bead creations. My hubby and I refer to it as supporting my habit. ;) I’ve added a couple more pieces and named the endeavor DaisyLady Designs. Check it out!

When I logged in tonight, I noticed that someone marked my little shop as a favorite. OMG!! Somebody <hearts> my stuff! *happy dance*

Over there on the right-hand side of the screen, you’ll find a shortcut to my most recent additions. I’ll even be selling my wares at the upcoming Story Circle Network conference!
