There’s this little church that has taken over an old bakery building near our house. We call it the bakery/church/car dealership because it’s all on one lot. Anyhoo, I’m accustomed to seeing ads, flyers, banners, and posters for Fall Festivals, Halloween Alternatives, and the like. It is the Bible Belt, after all. But this is the first year we’ve lived here that I’ve seen something as devolved as this:

After the initial shock and outrage wore off (what, are witches next here in southern Texas?!), something occurred to me… If they’re such good and upstanding Christians as this, what are they doing with the evil items in the first place? Hmmmm…..
I also posted this on our travel blog, but wanted to make sure I had the links here too.
Finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for!
I re-did our online photo gallery–the original one was taking way too long to load so I divided the photos.
Enjoy!!
I just found a new blog I know I’m going to like: Punctuality Rules!
Deb, the author of Punctuality Rules!, also runs another blog called Booking Through Thursday. I think I’m gonna like that one too!
Browsing through the recent posts, I found a link to Buy a Friend a Book Week. Their slogan is “good karma, good books.” LOL! I totally like that idea–so friends, don’t be surprised to find a book on your doorstep during the first week of January, April, July, or October.
And if you haven’t listened already, I highly recommend the Grammar Girl podcast. She actually makes grammar fun! *gasp*
A good and wise friend made a startling observation on her blog: changing your life requires changing your approach.
Why is that startling? Because I’ve been butting my head up against my life for as long as I can remember. Another startling realization for me is that my husband doesn’t ask me how my day is anymore because he’ll just have to listen to me bitch and whine about how unhappy my job makes me. How terrible is that?! On my part, not his. That I’ve let my discontent with my career (such as it is) rule so much of me (and apparently my relationships).
Megan’s post on change reminded me that even though a pearl of wisdom has probably been said in a thousand different ways by a thousand different people, sometimes it just has to come in the right package at the right time. Megan’s post reminded me that I’ve been doing the same things for years now, just swapping them around in different quantities to see if I strike a balance. Obviously that’s not changing anything. It’s like staying in the same room, just going to a different window–the reality is that you’re still in the same room, even if the view has changed.
Arrived back at home on Tuesday evening after our 2-week trip to the UK. OMG, I am still slogging through e-mails at work and catching up there. And I’ve been going through our photos trying to make sure they’re ready for posting (for those inquiring minds who want to know!). I’ve got a list of at least 20 topics that I have not yet been able to write about, so the travelogue will likely see more updates in the (hopefully) near future.
So back to the grind! :) It’s good to be home, to see our fur-children and family again. To be rooted.
We have our Friday Flats dinner tonight–our semi-tradition of meeting my family at our favorite little New Mexican food joint. Mmmmmmmmmmmm… green chile… Then Saturday we’re considering an outing to the wonderful and lovely Texas Renaissance Festival–an annual ritual I very much look forward to. And Sunday is a football game–go Texans!
And that’s all for this mostly pointless post. You may now return to your regularly scheduled life.
