Remember the judge who sued his dry cleaners for millions of dollars because he alleged they lost his pants? Well this one’s almost as kooky. This Houston philanderer wants 1-800-flowers to help pay his divorce costs because his wife found out about his affair when she requested a receipt from his latest purchase. Dude, suck it up. Ya got caught!

It was 2 pm, time for my Diet Dr. Pepper fix. So I walked to the vending machine and pulled out my dollar bill. Our vending machine is a little persnickety, so I always take a second to smooth out any wrinkles and creases in the bill. As I smoothed the bill, I was a little perplexed by a little blue bunny that was stamped on the dollar. Then I noticed other stamps that said, “Currency tracking project” and “Track this bill at www.WheresGeorge.com.” So I thought what the heck? Why not try it. It’s kinda cool! My dollar bill has traveled 27 miles since it was first entered into their system.
Well after complaining about our soggy summer, we’ve hit the first stretch of depressingly sweltering weather. We had so much rain in June and July that my wooden planter out back had mushrooms growing in it. Not in the soil, in the wood itself.
And the wet weather helped keep it a little cooler than normal. We’ve had additions to our colony of Berts (little green lizards), as well as new personalities moving into our backyard population. Guido (a frog, can’t find his picture) moved in this spring and we’ve had baby frogs, too. Tex is afraid of Guido and doesn’t like to go outside if Guido is on our patio. And a few weeks ago, Lenny (pictured below) made his first public appearance, choosing to visit with the fairy who rests outside my back door.
But now it’s just plain hot. According to the control panel of our Weather Beast, the heat index was 109 degrees the other day! Ugh.
One of the fun things I do with my “spare” time is sit on the Corporate Advisory Board for the Technical Communication program at New Mexico Tech. Mouthful, isn’t it? Basically, I get to return to Socorro once a year to visit with the faculty and students of my alma mater to talk about the state of our profession and how well the NMT curriculum reflects that. Okay, still a mouthful. But it’s a blast to do–as a tech writer who has moved to the Dark Side (aka, marketing), it’s a lot of fun for me to spend a few days with students and academics. We help the students prep for job interviews, listen to what the professors are researching, and hear about what our fellow board members are doing in their respective industries. It keeps me informed and honest.
Plus, I get to feel like a bonified professional who knows what they’re doing! Valerie Kimble, a fellow NMT TC grad who works for the college, interviewed alums who site on NMT advisory boards. Her interview is featured in the summer alumni newsletter, Goldpan. My 5 seconds of semi-fame!
This week is a big thank-you to the universe and all its beauty:
As I was going through old photos to test out the new Mac Web Gallery, I found some photos from my college years. OMG, talk about a blast from the past. If I’d known then that I would look back now with such fondness, I would’ve taken care to take more photos. But my (faulty) memory will have to make do! And these few photos that do mark those wonderful years spent with the best of friends.
