Friday Felicitations

The biggest kudo of the week goes to the wonderful facilitators of the writing retreat I attended last week in Red River, NM. It was amazing! I haven’t written so much in recent memory–I’m still going through the stuff I wrote, deciding what to keep, what to transfer to my journal, and what to continue working. Whew!

Megan also deserves a felicitation because she is taking her business venture in a whole new, inspiring direction. It’s all very exciting! I met her as an interview subject on my Story Circle podcast, then she became a client, and now I consider her a friend. It’s a happy world!

Speaking of happy world, my host has upgraded the MySQL database on my server, so my slow site should be loading faster for you. If it’s not, please let me know. :)

I turn 32 on Sunday (where has time gone?!). And we’re going to Rudi Lechner’s for a celebratory dinner. Yuuummmmmy German food!

As of August 30, my parents have been married for 39 years. So maybe they deserve the big kudos of the week! ;)

Mad Libs as a writing prompt

Remember Mad Libs? OMG, as a youngster I loved Mad Libs. Hmmm… maybe that’s why I became a grammar geek? One of the exercises we did last week at a writing retreat was very much like Mad Libs. The group called out 10 nouns (we actually ended up with 11) and then we had a few minutes to write a short story using all of the words. It was so fun to see what everyone came up with!

Our words

horse, books, cloud, tomato, rain, cowgirl, butter, dogs, blanket, frying pan, squirrel

My story

Today’s “Top 10 Bachelor” on HeroDating.com

The amazing Flying Squirrel, a rather debonnaire fellow, is not your average superhero rodent.  For not only has he saved a beautiful cowgirl and her horse from certain doom at the hands of a horrific radioactive blanket, he can also cook up one mean breakfast with only a frying pan, butter, and main ingredient of your choice. His favorite is tomato.

And as if those weren’t credentials enough, he loves dogs and romantic walks in the rain (though he has expressed a mild distaste for walking dogs in the rain). If you don’t like fancy meals, romantic walks, or dogs, he’ll settle for an intellectual discussion on books about his second-favorite topic: clouds.

When they explained the exercise I thought, “Aw man, this is lame.” But it was actually quite fun! You should give it a try.

Mac happy

Last week when I visited my girlfriends, I was jokingly counting up the number of Apple devices in our household. Apparently, we are both total gadget freaks. Last week I stopped counting at 13, but when I told Nathan about that tonight, we got to 17 before we stopped trying. Oy vey. Intervention, anyone?

Rebellion

I discovered tonight that my hubby has a rebellious streak I wasn’t aware of. We went to Lowe’s to buy filters for our A/C and used the self checkout line. As we’re walking out, he chuckles and says, “You didn’t see what I wrote, did you?” As if I watch to make sure he properly signs the little keypads. ;)

“Nope,” I confessed. “Why?”

“I wrote ‘I like boobs.’”

Wacky sign

This sign has been posted for a while on a major thoroughfare near us. The road is called Woodlands Parkway, but apparently it’s been changed. :)

Woodlands is now spelled Wudlas
