I tend to let myself get so busy, so worked up trying to get everything done, that my body (and especially my mind!) don’t know how to take a break. Last night I was given the perfect opportunity to take that break and disconnect from the rest of the world: our Internet connection was toasted when we tried to upgrade the firmware on our router. Sometimes the universe speaks to us through computer glitches, I’m sure of it.
So I sat on my bed, shut the door, turned on the baseball game, and was blessed with a cuddling kitty on my lap. Those purrs can slow even the hardest, busiest heart! It was great. Cute kitty and my team was actually winning! Then Tex came for a visit, and as is usual fashion with an 80-pound puppy, chaos ensued.
When he jumped on my lap I noticed a weird red blotch on my pants, then looked at his paw which was covered in red. Our first thought is, “BLOOD! ACK!!” Turns out the little stinker had found a red Pilot rollerball pen and thought it made a great chew toy. That brings “Take a break and cuddle with the cat” time to a screeching halt, I tell ya!
So Nathan’s outside hosing off the dog, I’m inside wiping up pools of red ink. Gotta strip the duvet cover off the bed, strip the cover off Tex’s bed. Thank goodness that was all. Oh, and I lost a pair of khaki pants out of the deal, but that’s much less stressful than having to lament red ink stains on carpet–at least we’re spared that.
I guess I’ll take a break later. ![]()

Ahh, yes dogs and pens. Simon had a similar episode with a blue pen except his soaked through our couch (and never came out) and the white carpet (had to be replaced) and the floor boards and wall (came out with lots of elbow grease). So I feel your pain, I really do.
