We’ve had some seriously wacky weather here. Don’t get me wrong, I love rainy weather! But this area was not meant to have this much rain. We have no yard–we have a swamp. So far we’ve had 7″ of rain this month (normal is 2″). That adds up to 37″ for the year (normal being 26″). Yep, slightly water-logged here in Houston…

I <heart> my geek. A few days ago he asks if he could buy a weather sensor to put in our yard.
“How big is it?”
“Oh, not big. Just a little pole that sticks up from the fence.”
I knew as soon as I saw the box that UPS dropped off that “oh, not big” was not an accurate statement. In fact, we now have a titanic electronic gadget mounted on our back fence. I have dubbed it The Beast.
To my geek’s credit, when I exclaimed, “I thought we were talking, like, one fifth the size this thing actually is!” he admitted to also expecting something smaller. However, not earning himself any brownie points, he immediately followed that statement with, “But it’s totally cool, don’t you think!?”
I have to admit, to my shame, that after seeing the fifth Harry Potter film I commented to my sister that Daniel Radcliffe is getting easy on the eyes. So I laughed my ass off at this post from EW.com:
Sometimes we joke that our cats have opposable thumbs. Despite the fact they’re declawed, they can grab on to anything. Last time we took them to the vet, the tech came to take Rosco to the back for his vaccinations and he was clinging to the door jamb like he was off to the executioner.
But this takes empty nest syndrome up a few levels.
She said she only had her husband to eat dinner with. Now, my hubby gets the riot act every now and then because he reads his Internet phone while we eat. I’d replace my dinner companion with someone else who talks. Taking this lady’s approach, I think my dinner conversation would go from silent to nearly suicidal.
“So, kitty, how was your day?”
Slurp.
“That bad, huh?”
Meow.
“My day was okay. If you don’t mind having psychotic commuters try to assassinate you. And of course, there’s the company that totally under-appreciates me. Oh, and don’t forget we go out of town next weekend.”
Lick, slurp, burp. Stare.
“Stop staring at me!”
Stare.
Holy smokes! It’s been a crazy kind of week. On Monday, the VP for my group mandated that everyone work in the office M-F, which means my glorious days of working from home are pretty much over. That has me pretty bummed, so I’m trying to get past my own pity party over that. Sometimes it seems too easy for me to let these “little” things set me back. So I’m working on focusing on the good things.
Having said that, it’s hard to come up with personal felicitations this week. One of those moods, I guess, where for every good thing I find, there’s an accompanying negative. Like I’ve been enjoying a creative streak this week with beading–but I realized this morning that I haven’t posted my podcast yet! Yikes!
However, there’s another felicitation that has me bursting at the seams… My good friend Tracy bought a house! *happy dance* Oh man, oh man, I remember that giddiness. We’ve been living in our first house for a little over 3 years, and every once in a while it still surprises me, still feels new and special. I think she’s a little surprised that she found it right now, but when the right house finds you, you have to take it. Tracy, may your new home shelter you and share in many years of happiness, safety, and blessings.
