Okay, I’m not an American Idol fan, but my hubby sent me this clip that had me rolling with laughter before I even saw it. Not having watching the show, I can’t tell you if she has redeemed herself or if she truly is this ditzy. Pay attention to the story she tells about how smart her dog is, then listen to her interview at the end of the clip. (If you’re not an American Idol fan, I’ll apologize now since you have to watch the entire clip to get to the last funny bit.)
Simon tells the contestant that she’s what is known as a “naughty little minx.” Only she doesn’t know what that is. So when she’s getting interviewed at the end of the clip, she tells Ryan Seacrest, “I’m a mink!”
Hilarious!

“Let our eyes see only beauty, let our hands be kind and strong, let our hearts seek love always, and our voices raise in song. Tonight we are surrounded by dear and faithful friends. May the ties of friendship keep us until we meet again.” ~ by Laura Powers
Well, I’ve been promising myself for, like, a couple of years now that I would customize my blog instead of using pre-packaged themes. The time has come! Thanks to an awesome theme, called K2, I have finally gotten off of my complacent rear-end and Becca-fied my blog. Yup, new colors and graphics. The header is a picture of poppies that I took in San Francisco. You’ll also notice that I uploaded some of my old web content: The College Years, a tribute to my college buddies. I’ll be working on uploading the rest of my content so you get a little more of me than just a blog.
So enjoy!
I took the day off today. Let’s call it a mental health day.
Sometimes I just need a change of pace, which really translates into a mental reset so I adjust my perspective. There are lots of changes in the works in my professional life, and the resulting personal changes to deal with. I’m pretty good about adapting to change, but that doesn’t mean I don’t need time to process and accept it!
So anyhoo, I spent the first part of the day being lazy and daydreaming about opening my own store. I found a really cute little storefront downtown that could be a really good spot, so all those dreams and “what ifs” are flooding back over me. I tend to spend a lot of energy repressing those daydreams since making them into reality is not practical, at least not right now. But that doesn’t make the daydreams any less sweet and exciting!
Then I decided to embrace the goal of this day, mental health, and I sat outside among my newly planted flowers and herbs. A couple of weeks ago, I took full responsibility for our lawn maintenance. In spite of the sore muscles, cuts, and blisters, I am having a ball. It means something to me that I can wander around my yard, admire the beauty, and know that I had something to do with it. Maybe it sounds silly, but I have felt such a connection to the earth, and to myself, as my hands plant and tend the flowers. Sitting there this afternoon, watching the blades of grass sway in the wind, seeing a bright yellow butterfly enjoy my red geraniums, feeling the warmth of the sun and the caress of the breeze… That did more for my mental health than sleeping late ever does!
In today’s installment of weird and kooky, we go to the lush tropical region of Australia. Apparently they imported cane frogs from South America some 70 years ago in the hopes of erradicating the pesky cane beetle. Turns out, as yet another “I told you not to mess with me” lesson from Mother Nature, the toads did not erradicate the beetle. In fact, they have become an even more pesky pest and are overrunning the territory. Duh. So now local officials are asking residents to help erradicate the toads.
So that’s kinda weird in a sad way. Or is it sad in a weird way? But here’s the seriously weird part. The government official suggests “flogging” the frogs with a piece of wood–apparently a quick and simple method of killing the toads. But the RSPCA suggests a more humane method of getting rid of the pests. Smear the frog with hemorrhoid cream, because it induces coma, and putting them in the freezer. More humane, huh? Dead is still dead. That’s just creepy, man.
