Monday Madness - Uncreative and kooky

Is uncreative a word? According to a quick Merriam-Webster Online search, it is. But the definition is only available to me if I pay for their unabridged service. That’s annoying. So I can see what “creative” means but not “uncreative.” Sheesh. Good thing I know what “un” means.

Anyhoo, I digress. I am feeling totally, completely, and utterly NOT creative this morning. And redundant, too, apparently. :) This creative lethary has made it difficult to decide on a Monday Madness post. So I decided to seek enlightenment from a wise and all-knowing source. The answer to the universal question is no longer 42, folks. It’s Google.

So I asked Google to show me kooky, cuz Monday Madness is ALL about the kooky, and I found Kooky Chow. It’s a web site about food that’s kooky. Like the tuna jerky that’s marketed as “For dogs, cats, and you!” Yes, that qualifies for Monday Madness, my pretty.

My name is Becca… and I converted to Mac

I have seen the light! All these years have I wandered the Valley of the Shadow of Windows, always jaded by the everchanging landscape and constant reboots and virus threats. Every day I work on my beleagured PC, filled with boredom and angst. If only I’d known there was a quick escape! The saving grace appeared in the form of a Mac.

Yes, this die-hard PC user, who once denegrated and demeaned those wackos who used Mac, has herself converted. I’ve been accused of crossing to the Dark Side. But, baby, if this is the Dark Side, sign me up for frequent flier miles cuz I’ll be flyin’ these skies for a long time to come!

You can keep your putzy Windows machines, I’ll stick with my video iPod, Mac Mini, and iMac G5.

Groovin’ to the music

OMG, I am SOOOOOOOOOO excited! I just discovered that UB40 released a new album: Who You Fighting For? It’s gotten great reviews and I’m downloading as I type! I think iTunes must be the worst thing that has ever happened to my budget. :)

I’ve been waiting for 13 years… 13 YEARS… for UB40 to come back to my city on a U.S. tour. Still, I am waiting in vain. According to my dear husband, going to Las Vegas just to see a concert is completely out of the question. Sheesh! :)

Monday Madness - Geeks need creative outlets, too

A dear friend sent me a video this week that induced immediate and violent flashbacks to my own college experience. It so totally reminded me of something I would see at New Mexico Tech! Ah… the good ole college days.

The words “heavy machinery” and “Twister” bring such dear memories. The days of camping out on the golf course (only to discover that the sprinklers, which use unprocessed water, are on a 2 am timer), sneaking into derelict towers to light beacon candles, etching our group’s secret identity into sidewalks, playing the Star Trek drinking game (with Mountain Dew because we wanted to be good kids who didn’t indulge in underage drinking), spiking our hair and pacing around the computer center carrying axes and maces (yes, the spiky medieval weapon), and roaming construction sites to find heavy machinery that might have the keys near the ignition. Giant inflatible ornament fights. Late-night Twister games. Late-night tipsy Uno games (cuz by then we were allowed to drink). Doom-induced carpal tunnel. *sigh* Now I feel so nostalgic.

Anyhoo, I digress. Feast your eyes upon Pacman invades University of Michigan.

One small victory

Word from the Indianola area has it that the hideous bench has been removed from the historical marker site! Looks like common sense has prevailed! But don’t stop writing! Let the Texas Historical Commission and Calhoun County Historical Commission know that there should be processes that prevent this from happening again.

And thanks to The Genealogue for linking to the story!
